Perhaps you use the same treadmill week after week. What if your measurements could become a reference showing how that particular machine behaves across the speeds you use for training?
The beta already supports saving multiple speed measurements for each treadmill. The expanded profile described here, including PDF export, incline measurement and model recognition, is a proposal for further development. We have not set a release date for it.
Several measurement points, a more useful picture
The idea is to measure several speeds within your usual training range. A profile could show selected speed, measured belt speed and the difference between them. It should include the measurement date, belt circumference and test conditions so you can see what the numbers are based on.
A measured point should be shown as a measured point. Any values calculated between points must be labelled as estimates, and the profile should not recommend settings beyond the range that has been measured and checked.
From km/h to running pace
Many runners plan workouts in minutes per kilometre, while their treadmill uses kilometres per hour. A table in the profile could make the relationship easier to see. For example, 10 km/h is a pace of 6:00 min/km, and 12 km/h is 5:00 min/km.
We want to explore a dated PDF that can be saved, printed and kept near the treadmill. It should show what was measured and the conditions that apply. New measurements may be needed after maintenance or changes to the setup.
Incline, model and user manual
A further idea is to compare the treadmill’s displayed incline with a measurement of its actual slope. This needs a suitable measurement method and clear guidance on where to place the phone.
We are also considering help with identifying the manufacturer and model from a photo, for example using existing image tools from Apple or Google. The aim is to make the correct user manual easier to find. Image recognition results and model suggestions would need checking before being linked to a particular treadmill.
What comes first?
Our first priority is learning from the beta and making measurement and setup understandable and dependable. Feedback will help us decide which parts of the treadmill profile would be most useful to develop next.
